The gastrointestinal microbiome is not only involv The gastrointestinal microbiome is not only involved in fibre digestion but also plays an important role in vitamin synthesis, immunity, neurological function and even behaviour. In humans, research on the gastrointestinal microbiome has been linked to a variety of diseases and disorders including obesity, anxiety and autism leading to a significant increase in research in this area in both humans and animals.
